Ralph Klein, a longtime pillar of Alberta politics, has died.

Klein, who died Friday in a Calgary-area long-term care facility, was 70. He had been battling a form of dementia and emphysema in recent years.

Klein was a hugely popular and often controversial figure. Known as "King Ralph," he served as Alberta's premier for 14 years. He led the province's long-ruling Progressive Conservative Party from 1992 to 2006, and presided over four consecutive majority governments.

We invite you to share your condolences for Klein's family and loved ones, along with your memories of the man, in the comments section below.

Providing your name is optional, but please include your location.

If you have photos, videos or personal stories to share, email them to us at yournews@cbc.ca.

You can also leave messages on our Facebook page, or send them to us via Twitter to @cbccommunity.
