CBC Live Online at The National Ballet's The Nutcracker

Categories: Community

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a professional ballet dancer? What goes on behind the curtains before a performance of The Nutcracker? Or how it feels to be on stage in front of thousands of people wearing pointe shoes, a tutu or half a horse?

Now is your chance to find out.

On Thursday, Dec. 20,  CBC Live Online joined the National Ballet of Canada before a performance of The Nutcracker for a special Christmas edition of our show.

The Nutcracker is an iconic part of the holiday season, with its depictions of toys and trees, the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Mouse King, set to the classic score by Tchaikovsky.

We chatted live with principal dancer Sonia Rodriguez who dances the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy -- and gave our audience members an opportunity to ask her questions directly, live via webcam.

See what she had to say in the chat replay video above!

Live Online host Lauren O'Neil and producer Andrea Ballemare also joined dancers onstage as Cannon Dolls, live-tweeting the experience to give you a first-hand glimpse into the performance.

The Nutcracker is onstage at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto from December 19 - January 5.
