September photo contest winner: Night Self Portrait by Ahmed Dassouki

Categories: Community

For September, we asked the CBC Community to show us their Black & White photography skills in our "Dark meets light" monthly photo contest.

Hundreds of impressive photos rolled through the CBC Your News community (and the hashtag for our brand new Instagram option was rocking too!) but only one winner could be chosen out of our five finalists:

Congratulations to Ahmed Dassouki of Frederiction, NB, who won this month's contest with 29.14 per cent of the vote!

"I took this picture with a friend of mine, as I was trying to get a self portrait of me looking at the moon and downtown Fredericton," he wrote. "It's worthy to note that I'm lit only by the moon."

Ahmed's photo caught our eye for many reasons. We love the unconventional portrait format, the spotlight effect of the moon's light, and the gorgeous view of downtown Fredericton reflected against the water.

Most of all, we love how Ahmed punctuates a very dark photo with bright points of light to provide interest and balance. Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing Ahmed.

Thanks to everyone who sent in their photos for the contest!

Stay tuned for the start of our October photo contest this evening.
