January photo contest: Pick of the day

Categories: Community

Today's photo of the day comes to us from Megan Jackson, a 22-year-old student at Trent University.

Jackson's resolution is to spend more time living in the moment and taking chances.

Perhaps this desire for perspective is what led her to seek a great vantage point for this photograph.

"This is a picture I took while at the parliament buildings," she writes. "It is a beautiful view of the icy water from the buildings on a cold January day."

The strength of the photograph is in its contrasting elements: the misty background and sharp foreground do much to emphasize the long range of the shot. The colours jump out at the viewer, partly due to the warm and cool tones that interact to create a more textured landscape. The bright spot in the sky is juxtaposed against the dark buildings on the ground.

Thanks for the submission!

We'll be posting your best shots with the theme of "resolutions" each day in January. At the end of the month, we'll select five finalists and ask you to vote for your favourite.

The contest winner will receive a prize courtesy of the CBC Shop.
