Which toy will be the hottest gift this holiday season?

Categories: Canada

Parents looking for the perfect gift to give their kids this holiday season need look no further.

The Canadian Toy Association's ninth annual Hot Toys for the Holidays event took place in Toronto Nov. 1, giving parents and tots alike a chance to preview and test over 100 of the season's most hotly anticipated new toys and games.

Reporting on the event for CBC News, Evan Mitsui snapped images of some of the items that were generating excitement among the youngsters in attendance, including Playskool's Let's Rock Elmo doll and an elaborate Pirates of the Carribbean Black Pearl pirate ship. As Mitsui discovered, safety and affordability were key themes in several of the toys.

Though there was apparently no one clear favourite toy at the event, there were a few items that made a strong impression, from Bloco Toys Inc.'s delightful floating foam Pyro Dragon to a sought-after tablet computer for kids known as the LeapPad Explorer.
