November photo contest: pick of the day

Categories: Community

Today's pick of the day for our November photo contest came to us from Ron Doctor in Tulita, N.W.T., by email.

We're asking for your best macro shots and Ron delivered with this picture of pussy willow catkins covered in snownov-pussy-willow-300.jpg.

"A nice, and seasonably appropriate, shot," says John Rieti of the CBCNews.ca Multimedia team. "You did a great job of finding a dark background to set the macro against, which makes the subject pop out a bit more."

"I would like to see more light on the frosty pussy willow, though. You can bring this out in Photoshop by boosting the brightness, though ideally try to find a shooting angle that casts a bit more light on your subject."

"The extra light will also make the image appear that much sharper."

The Community team is looking for your best macro shots and the Multimedia team will be on hand throughout the month to provide tips to help you capture that perfect picture.

There are more tips on macro photography in our Nov. 3 pick of the day post.
