The union representing Canada Post workers says it's making a last-ditch effort to avert a postal strike after rejecting the Crown corporation's final offer.

The two sides have been in talks for more than seven months and have not been able to hammer out an agreement.

The CUPW union says it has handed Canada Post what it calls a "new and final effort" to arrive at a negotiated contract agreement.

The union said it wants Canada Post to address issues such as inadequate staffing, excessive workload and what it says is "constant harassment of workers when they are sick or injured."
