Lucky bird droppings: Are you superstitious?

The old saying about bird droppings being lucky has come true for a New Zealand man who won more than $73,000 Cdn in the lottery after he was hit in the head by droppings in the country's north end.

Skeptical at first, the Bay of Islands man decided to test the theory by buying an instant-win scratch card with the last $5 in his wallet, the U.K. Guardian website reported Thursday.

"I could not believe it when I scratched the right numbers and realized I had won $100,000 ($73,115 Cdn)," the man reportedly told New Zealand Lotteries.

"I plan to start a new life with this win," the man, who was not identified, said.
