Calgary floods could nix next week's Tory convention

With less than a week to go before thousands of card-carrying Conservatives are set to descend on currently flood-ravaged downtown Calgary, convention organizers aren't yet ready to say whether the three-day policy confab will go ahead as scheduled.

According to a dispatch sent out earlier today by convention chair and party president John Walsh, the current plan is to spend the weekend monitoring the situation -- which, as per the message, will include "communicating with the various authorities close to the situation -- and will provide an update to delegates on Monday.

The full text of the note:

Dear Delegates,

Our thoughts are with our friends in Calgary this weekend as  we monitor the flooding which has occurred.  Over the weekend, we will be communicating with the various authorities close to the situation, and we will have an update for all delegates on Monday
John Walsh,
President, Conservative Party of Canada
Convention Chair

As always, I'll post further updates as events warrant. In the meantime, do try to stay safe and dry, Calgarians!
