PM talks cyberbullying at roundtable with families of high profile teen victims

As the few MPs remaining in Ottawa count down the hours until the House breaks for the final constituency week before the summer recess, the PM heads to Winnipeg, where, alongside Public Safety Minister Vic Toews and local MP Joyce Bateman, he's scheduled to take part in a roundtable on cyberbullying with the families of Amanda Todd and Rehtaeh Parsons, among others.

Outside the precinct, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is in Mississauga to unveil a new initiative to speed up family reunification, while Minister of State for Sport Bal Gosal attends the 2013 Canadian Paralympic Committee annual congress and awards ceremony.

Also in Toronto today: New Democrat leader Tom Mulcair, who is slated to speak to the Economic Club of Canada.

Elsewhere on the ministerial circuit:

  • Defence Minister Peter MacKay pays a visit to the Saint-Jean Garrison, while out west, Minister of State for Science Gary Goodyear joins the president of Calgary-based Pond Biofuels to launch "a new multi-million dollar project that will convert industrial emissions into valuable products."
  • In London, Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver holds a conference call from London to discuss his recent speaking tour -- specifically, his campaign to "promote... Canada's views on responsible natural resources development and the importance of fair and transparent rules and regulations" as his cabinet colleague Jim Flaherty attends closed-door meetings with his G7 colleagues.

Meanwhile, back in the Chamber, a rare burst of cross-aisle collegiality has resulted in an informal agreement amongst the parties to wrap up the final round of debate on the government's bid to add new offences related to the possession and use of radioactive material or nuclear devices for the purposes of terror.
