U.S. debt debate: How much is $2.7 trillion?

With just days to go before the U.S. government reaches its debt limit of $14.3 trillion, lawmakers continue to trade barbs while offering competing legislative solutions along with varying facts and figures. However, a target of $2.7 trillion has appeared in both the plans of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker John Boehner, either for projected spending cuts or the number by which the debt ceiling should be raised. In an effort to help understand such a mind-boggling figure, CBC News has put together a few ways $2.7 trillion could be spent (all figures US).
