Queen Elizabeth's coronation marks the 60th anniversary
Last Updated: May 31, 2013
Queen Elizabeth marks the 60th anniversary of her coronation in 2013. That elaborate and iconic ceremony on June 2, 1953, drew millions to the streets of London and came 16 months after she ascended the throne.
Elizabeth is Britain's second-longest-serving monarch, behind only Queen Victoria, who was on the throne for 63 years and seven months before her death in 1901.
After Elizabeth took her coronation vows, her deep devotion to duty became a hallmark of her life. She's also travelled widely at home and abroad, focusing much of her attention on the Commonwealth.
