Oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico
Region a hub for U.S. energy production

The Gulf of Mexico is a booming hub of energy production, accounting for 23 per cent of U.S. crude oil and offshore natural gas production, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. On July 22, a natural gas well off the coast of Louisiana caught fire. No injuries were reported.
The map below shows all of the active oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
