Last Updated: Oct 1, 2012

The Khadr family has long been the subject of controversy in Canada. Patriarch Ahmed Said Khadr died in a gunfight in 2003 near the Afghanistan border. His wife, Maha Esamnah, has lobbied on behalf of her son Omar, the only Canadian to be held at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
