How the Commons will be redrawn

Map: House redistribution gives four provinces more seats

Last Updated: Oct. 27, 2011

Ontario, Alberta, B.C. and Quebec will all receive extra seats in the House of Commons under new legislation to be proposed by the Conservative government. But even as representation swells for these four provinces, the average population of ridings in each remains above the national average of 93,529.

Hover over the province and territory names below for more information. One square in the map equals one seat in the House. Squares with a faded colour indicate added seats in the proposed legislation.

Population figures taken from the 2006 Census.
