Readers' advice for new Canadians

Read people's tips and submit your own

Last Updated: Dec. 9, 2012

If you've ever moved to a new home, you know how exciting and scary it can be – especially if your new community is very different from your old one. When the sights, sounds and scents are unfamiliar, even overwhelming, a little guidance from a friendly local can make all the difference.

With this in mind, we asked CBC readers to remember or imagine adjusting to life in Canada, and to share their best tips for the newly arrived. So far, we have received a flood of kind words, weather-related warnings and even some distinctly Canadian humour.

Whether your journey began in Canada or somewhere else in this great big world, we invite you to participate in building this resource.

Your tips will be mapped by your location in Canada as well as anchored to place(s) you identify as your cultural homeland(s).

Please only submit the form once. The information may take time to appear on the map.
