Do you have a memory to share from Bimini's?

top-biminis.jpg
Dave Bryson sent this photograph to CBC, showing firefighters trying to douse flames behind Bimini's. (Dave Bryson)
Firefighters battled a large blaze at Bimini's Tap House at 2010 West 4th Avenue near Maple Street on Monday morning. Full Story

Renovations were being done to the building overnight, said the owner, Pete Uram. The large wooden structure was built in 1910.

There were no reports yet on what may have caused the fire. Uram said it's too soon to say when Bimini's, one of B.C.'s first neighbourhood pubs, will reopen.

Do you have a great memory from Bimini's Tap House?

Bimini's was the first bar I went to with my new-found-friends when I moved to Vancouver. It was our go-to place... birthdays, weekend nights out, good-bye soirees. I just moved away and heard the news from a friend, so sad!

Hi I was shocked when I heard that the old place went up in smoke.
I have many happy memories. There was always a group who would go there for lunch, and of course the get togethers with co - workers after work on Friday evenings. great times where had by all.

Good in the day/ Terrible at night. people in leather shoes and pleated pants paying 10$ in kits to get into a cougar bar.

I hope the cold beer and wine is ok.

Biminis is like no other. They had the perfect formula - the atmosphere, the music, the staff, the history.... There is no other place like it in Vancouver and I have too many memories there to count. Weekend brunches, hockey games, long nights of dancing, New Years celebrations etc. Best wishes to Matt and the rest of the gang there over the next few months while they rebuild. Everyone in Kits will be there to support them when they re-open!

I was there on Saturday night! Where else can a late 20's/early 30's crowd go in Kits to dance?

Oh no! My favorite bar will be out of commission for a while.... this is a sad sad day for my friends and I... no more dance-offs, and where will we have our friends going away paty??? I was just saying the other day, " Bimini's is by far the best bar in Kits.. not too pretentious and the dance floor is always rocking... and who else has dobles for $7 on Saturday???"

I must admit, I almost shed a tear when I heard this morning, that Biminis was on fire. As a regular patron over the last 25 years, it was an integral part of my working life in Kitsilano.

The familiar routine of a long lunch on Friday, followed by more pints after work and an early morning arrival at home the next day, will be sorely missed. It was always a special place full of good friends, attentive staff (mostly) and happy times.

Kits has lost a social and historic landmark. Let's hope the owners rebuild.
