Flood safety

The arrival of spring means sunny skies and blooming flowers, but the warm weather comes with a price.

Fredericton has declared a state of emergency due to heavy flooding, joining Belleville and parts of Peterborough where residents continue to battle high water.

Bisphenol A

The federal government is expected to designate the chemical Bisphenol A a dangerous substance. This shortly after many major retailers pulled plastic products containing the chemical off their shelves.

What is Bisphenol A? What are the dangers associated with the chemical? What products can it be found in?

Peak oil

Rising oil prices have many consumers angry and concerned, not just about cost but about global petroleum production. The theory of peak oil — the idea that we will reach a maximum point of consumption at which point production will permanently decline — has been floating around since 1956.

Now two scientists, Dr. Richard Gilbert and Dr. Anthony Perl, are suggesting we may hit peak oil in 2012. In their book Transport Revolutions: Moving People and Freight Without Oil they discuss what to do with transportation in the face of oil.
