Accused kidnapper says he took 2-year-old to teach parents a lesson

(Hartford Police Department / Twitter) A 24-year-old man from Connecticut is facing multiple charges after allegedly kidnapping a young boy because, as he told police, he was angry to see him left alone in a parked car.

Hartford Police say that 2-year-old Luis Trinidad Jr. was in the back of his father's Orange Cadillac Thursday evening when his father stopped the car but left it running with its keys in the ignition to run into a store.

He left the store a short time later to find both the car and his child missing.

Police issued an Amber Alert and the boy was found safe in Britstol, CN, after about an hour.

A woman who brought the child to a police station claimed that it was her friend, Davon Mills, who had taken the child and the car.

Mills, 24, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree larceny, risk of injury to a minor and operating under suspension.

Mills later told police that he took the car with the child inside because he was upset with the boy's parents for leaving him inside of a car.

However, local reports including NBC Connecticut note that Mills has a criminal past and may have been high on PCP at the time of the incident.

Much of the discussion online, however, has given the man the benefit of the doubt, painting him as a concerned, if overzealous, citizen.
