Should provincial health insurance cover circumcision?

The American Academy of Pediatrics now says that the benefits of circumcision in newborn boys outweigh any risks, a change from its previously neutral stance.

The U.S. pediatricians group also recommends that Medicaid and third-party private insurance pay for the procedure.
    
In Canada, no provincial or territorial health insurance plans cover circumcision. B.C. was the first province to delist circumcision, in 1984. Manitoba Health stopped covering circumcisions in 2005.

The cost of having the procedure varies widely across Canada. In Alberta, it's about $200. In Ontario, it's $1,000.   

The recommendation of the Canadian Paediatric Society is that circumcision of newborns should not be routinely performed, although it validates that position by saying it's in keeping with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
