July photo contest: art in public places

Public art is woven into the fabric of daily life, like colourful buttons on an otherwise ordinary sweater. These works engage art buffs and curious onlookers alike -- turning heads, slowing speed walkers and inspiring debate.

Have you ever seen an example of renegade knitting? Or gardens planted in potholes? Or a chalkboard inviting you to write down something you'd like to do before you die?

Perhaps a controversial installation made you angry. Or maybe a brilliant street performance inspired you.

If a work of art in a public place catches your eye this July, we'd love to see it, too. Let us know where you saw the work and why it spoke to you (or didn't!).

We'll be posting your best shots each week day for the rest of July. At the end of the month, we'll select five finalists and ask you to vote for your favourite.

The contest winner will receive a prize courtesy of the CBC Shop.
