(April Spielman / WKMG Orlando) A 15-year-old girl dressed as Tinker Bell was refused admission to a Disney park in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday because, in her own words, "They said I looked too good."

A tearful April Spielman told WKMG in Orlando that Disney officials felt her costume too closely resembled that of their official Tinker Bell theme park characters.

"They were talking how the little girls, it ruins their dreams," she said. "But it ruined my dreams because I just want to be Tinker Bell."

In an effort to make her boyfriend's first trip to Disney World memorable, Spielman took months to fashion some festive costumes, including a Peter Pan outfit for her boyfriend.

"My makeup took two hours, my hair took another hour, and then I had to spray my body in glitter and paint my nails," she said.

While the pair had no trouble getting into Disney's Hollywood Studios Sunday morning, security officers stopped them at the front gate of Disney's Animal Kingdom later that day.

"The guests were asked to change because costumes that could be viewed as representative of an actual Disney character are not appropriate attire for our theme parks," wrote Walt Disney World spokeswoman Kathleen Prihoda in a statement issued Tuesday.

"The costumes were disruptive to our operation and possibly confusing to our other guests, as children were asking to take photos with them. To make up for any inconvenience, we provided them with replacement clothing and assisted them with the rest of their visit in our parks."

The free clothing and FastPass tickets offered by Disney Park officials weren't enough to save Spielman's trip, however.

"It just broke my heart," said Spielman. "I didn't want to take off the costume."

What's your take on the situation? Should Spielman have been allowed to wear her costume in the park, or was Disney right in protecting the image of their character for other guests?
