Does Canada's new $20 note fit the bill?

Categories: Canada

Canada's $20 bill - the most commonly used and most commonly counterfeited - has a new look.

The Bank of Canada unveiled the design of the new polymer bank note at its Ottawa headquarters this morning.

The new $20 features a recent portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the front and images from the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France on the back.

The current $20 bill features artwork by Bill Reid, inspired by the Haida people of the northwest coast of Canada. There's also a passage from Gabrielle Roy's novel La montagne secrete, with an English translation.

On Twitter Wednesday, some complained that the new note celebrates Canada's military past, rather than its artistic heritage.

Similar complaints surfaced when the $50 bill was replaced in March.

New $100 bills were put into circulation in November. New $10 and $5 bills are expected by the end of 2013.

What do you think of the new twenties? Do you agree with the switch to polymer money? Let us know what you think.
