The old adage warns against putting all your eggs in one basket -- so Volker Kraft has hung them all on a tree, instead.

For more than 40 years, the Easter egg enthusiast has been collecting the fragile shells and hanging them on a tree in his Saalfeld, Germany garden.

This year he reached a milestone when he slipped the 10,000th egg onto a branch. Now the 76-year-old retiree is finally ready to stop.

"There will be no increase because I do not have storage capacity anymore. I would have to sleep with the eggs otherwise," he said.

The colours and textures are a feast for the eyes, and the sheer number of eggs have made the family garden something of a tourist attraction.

Kraft first hung 18 eggs on the tree when it was just a sapling -- all the way back in 1965.

Since then, the Kraft family has been adding new eggs embellished with everything from sequins and sea shells to rhinestones and pearls.

Do you decorate Easter eggs? If so, how do you do it? Let us know step-by-step in the comments section below.
