Sumatra, Indian Ocean, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, Chennai, Aceh: Several Twitter trends this morning are related to this morning's magnitude 8.6 earthquake off Banda Aceh in Indonesia.
Many tweets were expressing concern and calling for prayers for Indonesia. There was also many pictures of cracked pavement and other quake damage, but it's difficult to verify their authenticity.
Korean Air: Many people are talking about the story of the jet that was forced to land at CFB Comox on Vancouver Island after a bomb threat was phoned in. Two U.S. air force F-15 fighter jets were scrambled from Portland, Ore., to escort the jet.
Springfield: In an interview with Smithsonian magazine, Simpsons creator Matt Groening reveals that the "real" Springfield is in Oregon. The location of our favourite family's town was a running joke on the series, with character delivering lines like, "Get me two tickets to the state that Springfield is in."
Groening grew up in Portland, Ore., watching shows like Father Knows Best, which was also set in a town called Springfield. "I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown," Groening told Smithsonian.
NHL Draft Lottery, Oilers, Forsberg, Grigo,Yakupov: Against the odds, the Edmonton Oilers got the first pick in the NHL's entry draft. Fans were speculating about which of the top picks would go to which team.
Caine's Arcade: A heart-warming movie about a nine-year-old boy and the cardboard arcade that he built in his dad's East L.A. car parts shop.
