What do you think makes a bad tourist?

Categories: Community

Americans outrank the Chinese and French as the world's worst tourists, according to a survey of more than 5,600 people from around the world.

What makes for a bad tourist? (iStock)Twenty per cent of respondents - most of them American - named the U.S. as the country with the worst tourists.  China and France followed with 15 and 14 per cent of the vote, respectively.

Americans, Canadians and Australians all pointed the finger at the U.S. as having the worst world travelers. Irish respondents said their British neighbours were the worst, while Britons said it was the Germans.

Americans made up 4,000 of the survey respondents. Mandala Research conducted the survey for the travel website LivingSocial.com.

The "top" ten countries with the worst tourist behaviour included:

  1. The United States (20%).
  2. China (15%).
  3. France (14%).
  4. Japan (12%).
  5. Russia (11%).
  6. Korea, India (tied at 9%).
  7. Germany (8%).
  8. Spain (7%).
  9. Britain, Canada (tied at 5%).
  10. Italy (4%)

Nothing in the survey indicated what people thought constituted bad tourist behaviour.

So we thought we'd open the question to the CBC Community.
