Would you visit a live bunny cafe?

Categories: Community, World

Some cafe lovers in Japan are keeping a close eye on their carrot cake as they mingle with bunnies in increasingly popular rabbit cafes.

Coffee shops like Jiyugaoka area's Ra.a.g.f and the Rabbit Sun Café are hopping with 20 to 30 rabbits as well as several enthusiastic customers, according to the Japanese Times. A customer makes new friends during a visit to the Ra.a.g.f rabbit in Tokyo. (Kyodo)

Customers can pet the resident "rabbit staff" and, in some cases, "tip" them with fresh vegetables.

Some shops separate the dining and petting areas, and charge customers for cuddling by the minute.

Another café called Rabbit Picture Books is a popular spot with local artists, who hang out with the store's relatively small group of seven bunnies.

"I want our cafe to be a healing space for stressed-out people," Etsuko Kawasaki, who has been running the cafe with her family for the past two years, told the Times.

Have you ever visited a Japanese bunny café? What do you think of the concept? Do you think a similar kind of coffee shop could be popular in Canada?
