Brewers Tom and Athena Seefurth have made a splash in the U.S. with their Mama Mia Pizza Beer, and are now set to export their unique brew to daring drinkers in the U.K.

The Seefurths first developed the savoury beer on Labour Day 2006, a creation they owe to a surplus of tomatoes, a bag of garlic and a willingness to experiment.

The couple has since sold over 500 barrels of the suds and quit their day jobs to start a self-branded beer company.

"It tastes like normal beer when it's on your tongue," Mr. Seefurth told a British newspaper. "But when you swallow you get an aftertaste of pizza topping."

The beer is flavoured with tomato and spices like oregano, basil and garlic. The drink is also the main ingredient in several recipes developed by the couple.

The beverage also has Canadian connections.

Mr. Seefurth told CBC News that one of his earliest radio interviews on pizza beer was with CBC's Carol Off. He has also sold the beer to Spider Beverage Co. in Alberta, meaning drinkers in that province may have tried the liquid dinner.

What do you think of the unusual brew? If you are a beer drinker, do you stick to the familiar or look for interesting flavours? Tell us about the strangest drink you've ever tried.
