Would you book a vacation in Greece?

Thousands of people gathered in Athens to protest job cuts and austerity measures Friday as Greek unions began a two-day general strike.

(iStock)The country's economy is facing another cliff as bailout creditors threaten to pull its rescue loan unless the harsh cutbacks are fully implemented. If that were to happen, the country would likely go bankrupt next month and could face the possibility of leaving the eurozone.

All this instability is putting a chill on tourism, an important pillar of the Greek economy. Industry website TravelMole.com reports that hotel rates in many popular Greek destinations have dropped.

On the resort island of Corfu in western Greece, prices have dropped 20 per cent, according to TripAdvisor. It's a surprising plunge for a destination that's nowhere near the strikes and protests in the Greek capital.
