Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, died Saturday at the age of 48.

News of her death exploded online, as fans, admirers and peers shared their memories and condolences on CBCNews.ca. Some shared their favourite memories that played to a single by the pop music queen.

Her first two albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1986), generated seven number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including Saving All My Love For You, Greatest Love of All and I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).

Throughout her career she won hundreds of honours worldwide, including 26 nominations and six wins at the Grammy Awards.
