A sheriff accused of roughly evicting a deaf and mute man from the Red Deer courthouse is no longer working for the provincial government. An investigation by the Solicitor General's office found Thomas Bounds used "excessive" and "unjustified" force against Bill Berry, 52, officials confirmed on Thursday.


2. Dog kills newborn in Alberta community

Officials in Airdrie are revealing few details about the fatal mauling of an infant by a family dog in the southern Alberta city. Emergency crews were called to a house in the city's Kingsland area at about 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday after a husky attacked the baby.

5. Semi-trailer wheels smash into home near Strathmore

A family east of Calgary woke up to a bang when a set of wheels burst through their front door early Wednesday morning. A tractor-trailer was heading north on Highway 24 near Highway 1 west of Strathmore when a set of its dual wheels came lose. The wheels flew a few hundred metres and struck the front of the home, RCMP said.
