Fitbit's Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale, introduced this week at the Consumer Electronic Show 2012 in Las Vegas, Nev., aims to help users to track their weight goals online.

Users can upload their measurements to a private site that provides graphs and charts.

But even weight loss is not immune to the era of social media.

"Any goal is infinitely more doable with the right support network in your court," claims the Fitbit website. "Invite your friends to Fitbit.com or find like-goaled people and groups on our active and growing community on Fitbit.com.

"You can also share your stats with friends via Twitter and Facebook."

Fitbit's Ultra Wireless Tracker already allows customers to track their "real-time activity stats" - steps taken, stairs climbed, hours slept - on Twitter.

But weight and body fat percent?

For some, the idea is a great motivator.

For others, however, it amounts to a kind of nightmare.
