Authorities in Uzbekistan are cracking down on the celebration of St. Valentine's Day, cancelling concerts and other events scheduled for Feb. 14.

Would you ban valentines if you could? (iStock)While many Uzbeks enjoy celebrating the holiday with cards, flowers and chocolates, authorities in the mostly Muslim country don't think much of the festivities.

Concerts scheduled for Valentine's Day have been replaced with poetry readings featuring the writings of 16th century Mughul emperor Babur.

Last year, the newspaper Turkiston described Valentine's Day as the work of "forces with evil goals bent on putting an end to national values."

But citizens of the world outside of Uzbekistan might also have their own reasons for cancelling Valentine's Day. Would you, if you could? Why or why not? Let us know what you think.
