If you're on Facebook, you've probably seen the new Timeline design - a format that allows you to scroll through memory lane until you find yourself back at birth.

Whether or not you like the new layout, the Facebook team is about to make sure you get it - much to the chagrin of some users.

Timeline provides a historical overview of everything a user has posted on the site since joining. This includes the user's birth year, which becomes the first event in the story of their life.

Although many like the sleek new look - which is considered a new frontier in social scrapbooking - others complain that Timeline unearths photos and posts that were previously well hidden.

"Over the next few weeks, everyone will get Timeline," Facebook engineer Paul McDonald wrote on his blog. "When you get Timeline, you'll have seven days to preview what's there now. This gives you a chance to add or hide whatever you want before anyone else sees it."

That means the critics among Facebook's 800 million active users will have a calendar week to adapt or abandon ship.

Have you adopted Timeline? What do you think of it so far? If you don't like the new format, will you leave the social network entirely?
