Categories: Community, Health, News Promo

Jane Bingham and Rebecca Sypin have begun an online campaign to have Mattel create a bald Barbie to raise awareness of children with cancer. (Jane Bingham/Facebook)An online movement is afoot to have Mattel create a bald Barbie to raise awareness for children with cancer.

Rebecca Sypin and Jane Bingham launched a Facebook page titled "Beautiful and Bald Barbie! Let's see if we can get it made" in late December. By Thursday morning, the page had acquired more than 38,000 fans.

Sypin, 32, of Lancaster, Calif., and Bingham, 41, of Sewell, N.J., have both been affected by the disease.

Sypin's 12-year-old daughter lost her hair after receiving chemotherapy to treat leukemia. Bingham lost her hair after being treated for lymphoma.

Mattel has not commented publicly on the doll proposal. The women said they contacted the company through general form letters and have received form letters in return saying Mattel doesn't accept ideas from outside sources.
