January photo contest: Pick of the day

Categories: Canada

Today's photo comes from CBC.ca member Pecola3. The picture, titled "Where the wild things grow," depicts blooming violet flowers taking centre stage in front of a greyscale background.

pecola3-where-the-wild-things-grow-584fixed.jpg"My resolution is to travel to where this flower originates," explains Pecola3. "Flowers are my life; watching them bud every spring with all their wonderful colours."

"This image has a nice interplay of repetition in both the subject and background," says our multimedia team's Michael Pereira. "The flowers have a lovely glow that sets their colours off against the grey background. A perfect amount of rim lighting makes this shot pop."

Sadly, the CBC Community team is bereft of botany experts this weekend. Do you know what flower this is, and where it originates? Let us know in the comments section!

Thanks for the submission!

We'll be posting your best shots with the theme of "resolutions" each day in January. At the end of the month, we'll select five finalists and ask you to vote for your favourite.

The contest winner will receive a prize courtesy of the CBC Shop.

Upload your images here or to our CBC Your Voice Flickr pool, tagged with the words "January photo contest," or email them to: yournews@cbc.ca with "January photo contest" in the subject line.
