Will an expiry date change how you use your Air Miles card?

Categories: Canada

airmiles-expire-cbc-220.jpgAir Miles Canada members won't be able to stockpile their points forever, thanks to new changes to the customer rewards program that includes expiry dates.

Starting Dec. 31, Air Miles reward miles will expire after five years of collecting them. Miles collected before this date will all carry an expiry date of Dec. 31, 2016. Starting in March 2012, customers will also be able to instantly redeem 95 miles for $10 when checking out at participating sponsors.

The change has some customers worried about having to redeem their reward miles after spending years saving them up towards a large reward.

But the company says some customers have been saving their miles for more than 20 years, and this change is intended as an incentive to redeem them more often.

Air Miles Canada is the largest customer rewards program in the country, with about 10 million card-carrying members.

Are you satisfied or frustrated about the new Air Miles rules? Will the new expiry date propel you to redeem them before you had originally planned? Let us know in the comments section below.
