How satisfied are you with your sex life?

Canadians' sex lives are below average compared to those in 12 other countries, a new survey has found. (iStock)A global survey suggests middle-aged Canadians have less sex, and are more likely plan what sex they do have, than middle-aged folks in 12 other countries.

There are three principal ways in which Canadians are lagging in the sex department, according to the survey, including:

  1. Frequency of sex. Canadians between the ages of 46 and 60 have sex about 1.35 times a week, less than the global average of 1.41. In Portugal, they're having it 1.96 times per week!
  2. Lack of spontaneity. The survey, conducted by pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly Canada, found just 79 per cent of Canadians see sex as a spontaneous act, compared to 86 per cent globally.
  3. Excuses, excuses, excuses. Nearly half of Canadians, or 40 per cent, tend to make excuses for not having sex, including fatigue, muscle aches and headaches, the survey found.
"When you compare our results to other nations, it's clear that Canadians aren't necessarily experiencing the most active or vibrant sex lives," said Dr. Gerald Brock, a surgery professor at the University of Western Ontario.

The other countries in the survey included Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the U.S.

Is anybody having fun out there? How satisfied are you with your sex life?
