UPDATE, Nov. 15: New York police cleared the original Occupy protesters on Wall Street from their longtime encampment at Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan early Tuesday so the area can be cleaned.

Protesters were told they could return afterwards, but without tents or tarps.

Also on Tuesday, Toronto bylaw officers began handing out trespass notices to Occupy protesters in St. James Park, telling them to remove their tents and leave the park by midnight.

Mayors in cities across Canada are saying the time has come for Occupy Canada to dismantle its camps and end its occupation.

Police in London, Ont., have already dismantled its protesters' camp in the city's Victoria Park. In Vancouver, authorities will be back in court on Wednesday to try to get an injunction against the protest occupation of the city's art gallery property. In Calgary, city council voted unanimously Monday night to start moving protesters out of Olympic Plaza. And in Victoria, city officials say they'll go to the Supreme Court on Tuesday to seek an injunction allowing the city to remove tents and other belongings at that city's Occupy camp.

On Wednesday, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford said it's time for Occupy Toronto to move on.
"They've had a peaceful protest but I think it's time we ask them to leave," he told reporters. City officials have complained about damage to the grass in St. James Park.

Other cities have had more co-operative relationships with their Occupy movements. In Halifax, Occupy protesters voluntarily left the public square in front of city hall to allow the city to prepare for Remembrance Day ceremonies. Occupy Montreal has had a courteous relationship with police and fire officials, and city workers have worked with protesters to winterize their shelters better.

Is it time for the Occupy protests to move on? Or should cities work with protesters to help them stay for the long haul? Let us know what you think.
