Is Facebook worth $100 billion?

The Wall Street Journal reports that Facebook is looking to raise as much as $10 billion in an initial public offering, expected around April of next year.

Facebook is by far the world's most popular social network, with about 800 million active users, although its rate of new user registration has slowed recently.

For comparison, Apple Inc. has a market capitalization of about $350 billion, while Microsoft and IBM are each worth about $208 billion. Since its initial public offering, Google's market cap has increased from $23 billion to $190 billion.

In 2009, an investment offer from a Russian company put Facebook's worth at just $10 billion.
