The 17 accused were the remaining members of an original group of 21 activists whom the Crown accused of conspiring to create unrest during the June 2010 summit. Three people had their charges dropped last year, while another, Montrealer Jaggi Singh, pleaded guilty in April to counselling mischief.

Also on Tuesday, documents revealed how police organizations across Canada worked to spy on community organizations and activists in what the RCMP called "likely the largest (joint intelligence group) ever assembled in Canada."

More than 1,100 people were arrested in Toronto on the weekend of June 26-27, 2010, the largest peacetime mass arrest in Canadian history. Police cracked down on the protests after rioters smashed store windows and torched police cars.
