A police crackdown on motorists in Hampshire, England, last week revealed many drivers have little respect for the rules of the road, the Telegraph reports.

Called Operation Tramline, the initiative was designed to send a message to distracted drivers, and was performed with the aid of police officers camped out in marked and unmarked cars at the side of the road.

The officers witnessed all manner of crazy driving behaviour during the five-day crackdown, with the high (or low) point coming courtesy of one motorist who was observed simultaneously drinking coffee, using a laptop and writing down answers to a radio quiz.

Of the 84 vehicles stopped due to driving offences, 26 drivers were stopped for being distracted or not in control of their vehicles, while 39 people were prosecuted for mobile phone use while driving.

Should the police perform similar driving crackdowns in North America? Why or why not? What's the craziest thing you've seen a driver do? Share your comments below.
