Over 11,000 people "like" Occupy Canada's Facebook page, which lends support to Occupy protest movements in Canada and posts information about several events, including in Toronto and Vancouver.

The protests originated in the Occupy Wall Street movement in the United States that started in New York and has been spreading across the country.

In the days leading up to the planned Oct. 15 protest on Toronto's Bay Street, members of the movement opened - then later closed - lines of communications with the city's police force "until activists are more organized and can make the decision as a group," according to The Globe and Mail.

Meanwhile, a petition to Toronto police posted online this week calls on the force to respect the rights of protesters to gather peacefully. The petition calls for the force to prevent a "repeat" of mass arrests conducted during the G20 protests in June 2010.

Do you plan on attending the Occupy Canada protests? Why or why not? Do you work in the downtown cores where protesters plan to appear? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
