In a recent column for CBCNews.ca, Washington correspondent Neil Macdonald takes a hard look at the Republican candidates vying for the White House in 2012.

Fifteen candidates have emerged, including Tea Party favourites Michelle Bachmann and Rick Perry and more moderate contenders like Mitt Romney.

But recent "yahooing" at Republican debates have tarnished the party's image and shown great divisions in party values. As a result, the Republican establishment is still "desperately seeking an electable candidate" to challenge President Barack Obama, Macdonald writes.

Only Perry and Romney have emerged as viable contenders.

Have you been paying attention to the search for a Republican presidential candidate?

Which candidate do you like best? Which one do you think stands the best chance of winning the presidency?
