Men want sex. Women prefer to cuddle. That's what decades of stereotyping about relationships tells us.

But an international sex survey by researchers at the Kinsey Institute of Indiana University says that hugging and kissing are more important for men's happiness than for women's.

The survey in involved more than 1,000 couples in five countries: the U.S., Germany, Spain, Brazil and Japan. All the people who took the survey were between 40 and 70 years of age.

All of the couple had been living together for at least a year at the time of the survey, but the average time they were together was 25 years.

The sociologists found that the longer women are in a relationship, the more they enjoy the sex.

The study, published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour, also found that Japanese and Brazilian women were more likely than American women to report being satisfied sexually.

"It's possible that women became more satisfied over time because their expectations change, or life changes when their children grow up," the report's author, Julia Heiman, told The Telegraph.

And men who said that regular cuddling was a part of their relationship were on average three times happier than those who said it wasn't.

So, who enjoys cuddling more, men or women? Does this study ring true for you? Let us know what you think.
