In yet another twist in the phone-hacking scandal gripping the U.K., the BBC is reporting Rebekah Brooks has been arrested Sunday.

Brooks stepped down Friday as head of Rupert Murdoch's British newspapers. She was an editor at News of the World during the time period when it's alleged that journalists at the tabloid hacked into the voicemail of teenage murder victim Milly Dowler.

Police would not confirm that Brooks had been arrested, but said a woman was being questioned at a London police station Sunday on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and suspicion of corruption.

Police have already arrested nine people connected to Murdoch's British media empire over allegations that the News of the World hacked into the mobile phone voicemail of hundreds of celebrities, politicians, rival journalists and other newsmakers.
