In the latest chapter in the ongoing phone hacking scandal gripping the U.K., media mogul Rupert Murdoch has issued a public apology for his corporation's part in the scandal, CBC reports

On Saturday, full-page ads appeared in major British dailies, in which the media mogul said of the hacking scandal, "We are sorry for the serious wrongdoing that occurred."

Murdoch's printed atonement arrives a day after he met with the parents of Milly Dowler, a schoolgirl who was murdered in 2002. Staff at Murdoch's tabloid, News of the World, allegedly hacked into the young girl's cellphone to retrieve information about her disappearance.

British member of parliament Tom Watson has referred to Murdoch's newspaper ads as a "half-apology," and suggested the show of remorse is too late to be considered sincere.

Was Murdoch right to issue the full-page apology? Why or why not? Is the apology arriving too late to be effective?
