Prime Minister Stephen Harper has laid out his party's agenda, promising an end to the controversial long-gun registry, new laws to combat crime and terrorism, the protection of religious freedom, the completion of negotiations on a free trade agreement with the European Union by 2012.

In the speech from the throne, the Conservatives also pledged term limits for Senators and said they would encourage provinces and territories to elect Senate nominees.

They will also introduce legislation to restore "fair representation in the House of Commons" by expanding it to include more MPs from areas in B.C., Alberta and Ontario.

Additionally, they will require First Nations chiefs and councilors to make their salaries and expenses public.

Gov. Gen. David Johnston read the speech in the Senate before MPs, the Supreme Court justices and other dignitaries.

Regardless of your political affiliation, is this an agenda you can support? Are there aspects of it that you support and others that you don't? Share your thoughts in the comments field below.
