Finance Minister Jim Flaherty tabled the Conservative government budget in the House of Commons Monday.

His revised budget includes all of the measures contained in the one tabled in March, plus the two additions Flaherty had said would be in it: $2.2 billion for an HST compensation deal for Quebec and a commitment to phase out the per-vote subsidy for political parties.
Additionally, the budget includes a campaign promise made by the Tories to eliminate the federal deficit a year ahead of schedule.

Flaherty was clear Monday that some government programs will be scrapped in order to eliminate the deficit by 2014-15.

"There will be some programs that will not continue, there's no question about that," he said.

Flaherty gave no indication of what programs will be on the chopping block, saying that will be up to Treasury Board President Tony Clement and a new cabinet committee to decide.

Are you satisfied with the federal budget? Why or why not? How confident are you that the Tories will balance the budget by 2014-15? Leave your comments in the field below, or take our survey.
