Soccer's World Cup had Paul the 'psychic' octopus (R.I.P.)

Now hockey has its own clairvoyant creature.

Cosmo, the Amazon parrot of the Vancouver Aquarium, correctly predicted the outcome for all five games of the Western Conference final series between the Vancouver Canucks and the San Jose Sharks.

Now, her prediction for the Stanley Cup final will be put to the test. She says the Canucks will win the series over the Boston Bruins in five games. The bird picks the winners by choosing cards bearing the logos of the Canucks and the Bruins.

After Paul the octopus, imitators sprang up all over the world, including Mani the Parakeet in Singapore and Lorenzo the Parrot in Hannover, Germany.

And there was a saltwater crocodile named Dirty Harry that predicted Spain's World Cup final win, and called the result of Australia's general election by snatching a chicken carcass dangling beneath a caricature of Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

Do you put any stock in animal predictions? Does your hometown have a beloved animal mascot? Let us know.
